Narrating The Final Drive October 29, 2011
Because I totally, fully, completely understand what it means to be a fanatical fan of Illini Football, I decided to narrate the final drive. I was completely certain what would happen. I’m sure you’ll be able to hear it in my voice.
I would give anything to muster up a “we got this” attitude during a last minute drive. We came back against Northwestern? Why can’t I believe?
This is why I can’t believe.
Bollocks. That damn PI call.
Also, I’m completely over Zook and getting there with Petrino. How are we regressing this badly?
Just listened to your narration. Not sure why I did, because it was bad enough to see it live, I really didn’t need to relive it with someone recording everything I was thinking the entire time. My stomach was churning again the whole time you were talking. So disappointing.
.
I watched the entire post-game on field celebration/closing credits, just waiting to see if they would go, only joking, he gets another chance, this game isn’t really going to end with Illinois special teams making huge mistakes all game, and now the only perfect kicker in the nation missing. But it never happened, so I finally turned off the TV and sulked upstairs.
.
Penalty disallowing a TD. Dropped snap on a field goal. Blocked punt. Hit upright. Oh yeah, 4 turnovers. Too many mistakes to overcome. Correct one of those and at worst, it’s OT. And: weak PI call, VERY generous spot for PSU that doesn’t get overruled with replay, interception when the guy had the ball lying on the ground and not reviewed, egregious helmet to helmet hit causing a fumble missed.
.
Petrino had regressed badly this season. His audition year to find an HC gig, isn’t going well.
.
Coach K’s defense played well, but I hate, hate, hate, that on the 4th down, they only rushed 3. It “prevents” you from winning.
.
Between the Minnesota game and the bowl game is when a switch should happen at the top. Interim Coach K, and find a solid replacement.
.
Ford ran like a man today. Give him the rock as long as he keeps running like that and please stop taking him out every time he has a good run. Sands stepped in well for Thornton.
.
Please, at least beat Michigan, and/or end Denard Robinson’s season.
.
At least the Cardinals won. (Illini-Cardinal fan here)
.
Long live the Chief.
There’s no way this team is within 2 TDs of Michigan if the offense doesnt get untracked.
3 straight games behind shutout in the 1st half.
I thought Minnesota was a for sure win even with a down team (having lost 5 straight), but after their win today vs Iowa anything is possible.
Last thing – fire the special teams coach.
Back-back weeks a block punt.
2 missed FGs
Horrible returns all year long.
I honestly thought we could beat Penn State. Penn State has simply SURVIVED this year. Things are falling there way and it won’t be good when they play high powered offenses in the weeks to come. Congrats to Joe Pa I guess.
.
My brother made the comment to me that every time the camera went to Zook he had this “please don’t score” or “oh I sure hope this play works” concerned look on his face. Show some composure man. When players look at you and see fear, that’s all they will have.
.
I guess the only silver lining is if we continue to slide it makes MT’s job easier after the season with regards to Zook. Also, Petrino better find himself and his offense quickly or he may not be far behind.
.
Congrats to our Defense. Only one full drive all game. (Too bad it was the one that mattered) Coach V seems to know how to get these guys to play hard. Sorry your offense wasn’t there to help you out D.
Somebody please tell me why, oh why, did I just shell out more than I ever have, for tickets to *anything* to see us make stupid mistakes and waste opportunity after opportunity against Michigan in two weeks?
I feel like such an idiot for believing, time and time again, that we can be a good team.
D*mn, this was a tough one.
This was so winnable…and I feel bad for doubting Ford. He put his heart into this.
“I thought Jenkins came down with that ball, but then the PSU player seemed to talk the official into a different ruling.”
That was insane. That guy should not be allowed to officiate a pop warner game. He had no idea what’s going on, sees the PSU players jumping around and pointing at the PSU player with the ball, and then assumes there was a change of possession.
Bob, I don’t even need to listen to know how you reacted. I knew that we would lose 10-7 as soon as Penn State gained 20 on the first play of their winning drive.
