90i #48: Peter Bonahoom July 15, 2013
6′-2″, 200 lbs.
Sophomore (walkon, 3 years to play 3)
Prospect High School / Arlington Heights, Illinois
What I Know About Him:
I know, I know. “Robert just loves walkons” and “Robert always overhypes the walkons” and “Robert is overcompensating for the fact that he never played college football by projecting his dreams onto innocent non-scholarship football players at his alma mater”. Totally agree.
But I still want to see Bonahoom get some passes thrown his way. If for no other reason than the fact that last year, when he did have a catch, the announcer screwed up and identified him as Kaeman Mitchell (who was #29 on defense, not offense). Bonahoom goes hard every practice, he can make the tough catch over the middle, and he generally displays some decent quickness. I’d love to see him get a shot.
What I Expect From Him:
It’s a long road for a walkon to break into a wide receiver rotation. We have Lankford and Osei and Harris and Barr and Hull and Hardee and Knight and Rock and Taylor and Murdock (and others that I’m sure I’m missing), and now I’m expecting a walkon to break the rotation? It really is a longshot.
But I expect him to pull it off. Every time I watch practice, he’s getting lots of reps and catching lots of balls. One time I swear I remember seeing him lined up with the first string this spring. I’m pretty sure Bill Cubit and his assistants have realized they have a walkon receiver who can catch all of the tough balls. Here’s hoping we get to see it this fall. Because Robert loves it when walkons excel.
