What I Know About Him:
His injury hit pretty hard in August of 2010. It caused a big position shift less than two weeks before the Missouri game. Tavon Wilson switched to safety. Justin Green switched from tailback to corner. STEVEHULL switched from wide receiver to safety. And somehow, Vic Koenning took all of those changes and gave Missouri our best defensive effort in six years. I miss Vic. I might really miss Vic in 14 days.
Supo might with the “most intimidating in his uniform” award for this team (a category dominated by Martez Wilson in the past). He’s tall and strong and fast. The question now – is he ready to have a year like Martez did in 2010, where everything clicks and he goes out as one of the leaders on our defense?
What I Expect From Him:
Quick, name your top three Supo Sanni plays from last year. Can’t think of any? Then that’s what I want from him. Plays that stick out. I don’t care if it’s a blitz or an INT – it’s time for Supo to move from “solid and always in position” to “came out of nowhere in run support to cut his legs before he could get the first down”.
This is not to say that he wasn’t solid last year. He learned Koenning’s system and helped us become the #3 passing defense in the country (he also helped Whitney Mercilus get five or six full-fledged coverage sacks). But the leader of that secondary went to the Patriots in the second round, so it’s time for a senior to step up. How ’bout it, Shoop?
