Easy Post (With Irony!) August 3, 2012
After writing my rebuttal to the Beckman/State College/Vitale story on Monday, I was contacted by the guys at Off Tackle Empire. I had referenced their post about Tim Beckman, and they wanted to give me an opportunity to do a rebuttal of sorts on their blog. Link below.
The ironic part? One of their questions talked about their perceived “marketing failure” of Illinois athletics. Compared to their awareness of other programs in the Big Ten, their perception of Illinois is that we’re just kind of there. I responded, referencing my Forbes Hall roommate’s 15 year obsession with our marketing failures. And then, not even an hour after Off Tackle Empire posts their interview with me, we finally begin to market ourselves. Coincidence? YOU TELL ME.

Something like this should have been done a long time ago. Growing up in the suburbs, I don’t think anyone really felt a connection with the school. Never felt like the state school, everyone wanted to go somewhere like Iowa. I know MT said he’d try to grow it in Chicago – slowly get the brand out there and into the suburbs. Plus, heats up the rivalry with NW.
