What I Know About Him:

I know we’re short at safety. And I know Nick North is a safety. But I can’t remember a single Nick North play from the spring game or from Rantoul last summer.

That sounded bad. I didn’t mean for it to come off as snarky. Ok, I really feel bad now. Here come the tears.

Let’s try again. Nick North is a safety from Florida. For some reason, more with safeties than any other position, I feel like it takes three full years to learn the position – a redshirt year and then two years as an understudy. So for North, this is Year 2.

What I Expect From Him:

Fighting for one of the backup spots. Supo Sanni and STEVEHULL are the starters. (Side note: I’m typing this one on my phone as my wife and I head out of town on our annual 4th of July trip. How cool is it that I only get a few letters into STEVEHULL before Autocorrect suggests all-caps STEVEHULL? Hmmm – I wonder what else is in there. BadNewsBrown – yes! B-a-d-n and it suggests “BadNewsBrown”. Awesome. What else? Zookyouidiot. Dang – nothin’.)

Where was I? Yes. Supo Sanni and STEVEHULL are the starters. So Nick North will be fighting with PNY, Earnest Thomas, Ben Mathis, and the freshmen for one of the backup spots. My guess right now – we play five safeties: Sanni, STEVEHULL, PNY, Mathis, and Thomas, leaving Nick North as the odd man out. Next year, with Sanni and PNY graduating, North gets his shot.
