The 90 Illini #67: Ean Days June 25, 2012

Ean Days
Running Back
5′-11″, 205 lbs.
rs-Sophomore (on scholarship, 3 years to play 3)
Camden County HS / Kingsland, GA

ALE Ranking last year: #58

What I Know About Him:

I know he’s a great kid. And I know he was a high school running back who was recruited as an ATH and tried at safety. After a year there, it didn’t work out, so it was back to running back.

Where does he fit in this offense? I’m unsure. Which is why his ranking is lower this year than it was last year. He’s kind of a tweener tailback – not a speed back, not really a power back – so I’m not sure how we’ll use him.

What I Expect From Him:

I sometimes feel awful when filling out these sections. There are 85 scholarship players and 20-some walkons, and I want to be hopeful and write positive things about how they’re eventually going to start. But for some guys (maybe even a quarter of the guys), that just won’t ever happen. I fear that Days, lost in a position change one year and a coaching change the next, might be one of those guys.

But that doesn’t mean he can’t have an Antonio Gully kind of career – never crack the starting lineup, but go hard in practice and find your way onto coverage teams and eventually become a kickoff coverage specialist. Days is still a solid athlete, so even if he doesn’t fit the offense and isn’t cut out for safety, I’m hoping he finds a niche on special teams.

Actually, that’s not true – I’m hoping he comes out of nowhere and becomes a vital third tailback after Young and Ferguson.
