What I Know About Him:
I know that I need to stop calling him Fat Kicker. But as a huge fan of Fat Guy Touchdowns, and as a B.O.U.S., I’m simply partial to larger dudes playing positions normally reserved for smaller dudes. Give me Jeff Cumberland over Ryan Lankford at WR any day. Heck, give me Akeem Spence at WR. See also, give me a 220 lb. kicker. Sure, he’s not Chris Richardson (I think he was 245 or so), but he’s not 160 lb. kicker JJ Blau either.
I know that in high school, he played offensive line. And I know that he’s lost some weight since then. And I know that he has a decent leg, having watched him here and there the last two seasons. Now the question is…
What I Expect From Him:
Can he win the kicking job? It’s a six horse race (Immekus, Zalewski, Dunn, Blau, Van Miegham, and true freshman Ryan Frain). Right now I’d say that it’s Zalweski in the lead, with Immekus in second and scholarship kicker Ryan Frain ready to try to win the job as a true freshman. But these things are wide open. Who knew Matt Eller would win the job in 2008? It could be any of the six.
One thing I could see: someone else wins the placekicking job, but Immekus wins the kickoffs. Because a 220 lb. high school offensive lineman barreling down the field after kicking off would be pretty awesome. I’d make a special counter for Nick Immekus Big Hits On Kickoff Coverage on the sidebar of the blog and everything.
