The 90 Illini #82: Justin Lattimore June 11, 2012
Justin Lattimore
Tight End
6′-3″, 225 lbs.
Junior (on scholarship, 2 years to play 2)
Gaither HS / Tampa, Florida
ALE Ranking last year: #53
What I Know About Him:
All he does is catch touchdowns. Lattimore has one reception in his career: the 33 yard touchdown from Nate in 2010 against SIU where Nate was jumping out of bounds and then flipped the ball to Lattimore for a wide open touchdown.
Last year, though, he only played on special teams and didn’t have any catches as tight ends like Jon Davis and Matt LaCosse passed him on the depth chart.
What I Expect From Him:
So now the question is, where will he fit in this new offense. I know that Jon Davis will have a role, and I’m pretty certain we’ll use Matt LaCosse, Evan Wilson, and Eddie Viliunas a lot. So where does Lattimore fit in?
Well, here’s two ways: 1) Fill that hybrid role, somewhere between the blocking tight ends like Viliunas and the receiver/h-back tight ends like Davis. We could use a versatile guy that can fill in all over the field. And 2) become a dependable hands guy. If we’re short on receivers (and we are), become our third-and-three guy. Spend all of Rantoul perfecting a 4 yard curl route where you hang onto the ball with 9 linebackers pummeling you.
